As I stand before the most beautiful and amazing monument I have ever seen,I am awestruck how this gigantic and a beauty of a monument was made. The Taj Mahal is truly a jewel of Historic India.

It is located on the banks of the river Yamuna and the eastern part of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. One can easily drive down from Delhi to see the Taj in just a couple of hours.Once upon a time,Yamuna overflowed near the Taj and it was a wonderful
sight to see.As I stand down looking at the Yamuna.I can picture Emperor Shah Jahan enjoying the magnificent beauty of nature.

The Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the year of 1631 to immortalize his wife Empress Mumtaz Mahal who died of childbirth in the same year. She was an inseparable companion of Shah Jahan. The Taj Mahal was built for the epitome of love between him and his wife.Empress Mumtaz Mahal died too early for him.Lovers from all over the world come to visit the Taj Mahal and believe that when you come there your love gets stronger for each other.

The Taj Mahal was built with the help of 22,000 labourers and 1,00 elephants. The monument is made entirely with white marble which had been bought in from central asia and all over India.I wonder how they must have done it during that time because they did not have any modern technologies and still made it look so beautiful. The Taj Mahal was studded with gems, diamonds and rubies.

A couple of years ago The Taj Mahal was covered with grime and looked very ugly. It had lost its original beauty however, the Government of India restored it back to its gorgeous beauty. The Taj Mahal is listed as one of the very famous UNESCO sites. It is a world heritage property.I am very proud that India has such fabulous historical monuments like the Taj.
