What does it feel like to have a Shih Tzu?
What does it feel to have a Shih Tzu? That among many others is a question I get asked when I'm with Simba - my 4-year-old puppy.
Shih Tzus are a small breed of dogs which have originated from China. These dogs used to be the Emperor's dogs so the royalty is in their blood. It's funny actually that the word 'Shih Tzu' translates into 'little lion' but they are nothing like a lion. Ironically, we decided to name our little lion 'Simba'.
I got Simba for my 11th birthday. He was just the size of my palm when he first came. He was so afraid and stressed that he had a fever in the next two days. When I look back and think of all the good memories, I had with him, I wish I could relive them.
Taking care of a Shih Tzu becomes a little tiring and tough. They are very picky eaters and are quite vocal. In the beginning, when he was small, he ate his dog food with happiness and excitement. But in about two months or so, he refused to eat it. We, naturally, became worried, so, we decided we would feed him roti made of wheat and boiled chicken pieces. It was a temporary decision, but it turned out to be permanent for some time.
Over time, we found out that had very sensitive skin and was allergic to chicken, so we had to switch to mutton.
These things affected everyone around the small canine but we all still love him unconditionally. None of us can imagine our lives without him and our lives revolve around him.
Having a Shih Tzu means lots of love, kisses and barks. It means having numerous happy memories, ear scratches, belly rubs and a lot of naughtiness. That is what it feels like to have a Shih Tzu.
